Early Life & Background
Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar Sharma was born into a devoted family in Haryana’s Palwal district. Raised by his parents, Shri Daya Chand and Smt Meera Devi, he grew up alongside four brothers and a sister, in a household rooted in discipline and patriotism. Two of his younger brothers, Kapil and Hardut, also serve in the Indian Army as Agniveers. From a young age, Dinesh aspired to wear the uniform and defend his country.
Military Career & Family
He joined the Indian Army at the age of 21 and was assigned to the 5 Field Regiment of the Regiment of Artillery. Known for his discipline and commitment, he served with pride and dedication.
Outside of duty, he was a loving husband to Seema and a caring father to a daughter and a young son.
Circumstances of Sacrifice
On the night of 7 May 2025, during heightened tensions along the LoC in the Poonch sector, Pakistani forces initiated heavy artillery and mortar shelling. Lance Naik Sharma, posted on the frontlines, stood his ground and continued his duty under relentless fire.
In the intense shelling, he sustained severe injuries and later succumbed to them. At the time of his sacrifice, he was just 32 years old.
Final Farewell & Honours
His mortal remains were brought to his native village, where he was laid to rest with full military and state honours.

The entire community gathered to pay their respects, their chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Dinesh Kumar Sharma Amar Rahe” echoing through the air.
His wife Seema, pregnant with their third child, stood strong with their two young children.
His father expressed both grief and pride, honouring his son’s dedication to the nation and reaffirming the family’s tradition of service, as two of his brothers continue to serve in the Army.
